23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

The Courtesan Hanaogi of the Ogiya, with Child Attendants Yoshino and Tatsuta, c. 1793

EDITORS COMMENTS
is a captivating woodblock print by Hosoda Eishi that transports us to the vibrant world of 18th-century Japan. This exquisite artwork showcases the intricate details of traditional clothing and customs during the Edo period. In this triptych, we see Hanaogi, a courtesan from the renowned Ogiya establishment, elegantly dressed in a stunning kimono adorned with delicate patterns. Her graceful presence is complemented by her two young attendants, Yoshino and Tatsuta, who are also dressed in colorful kimonos. The artist skillfully captures the essence of these characters through their facial expressions and body language. The girls' youthful innocence contrasts beautifully with Hanaogi's refined poise as they stand beside her holding paper lanterns that softly illuminate their surroundings. Eishi's mastery of color woodblock printing is evident in this piece as he expertly blends rich hues to create depth and texture. The attention to detail extends beyond the figures themselves; even the background features meticulously rendered elements such as cherry blossoms symbolizing beauty and transience. This artwork offers us a glimpse into Japanese society during this era - its traditions, occupations, and social hierarchies. It serves as a testament to Eishi's talent for capturing not only physical appearances but also emotions and cultural nuances within his prints. Displayed at the Art Institute of
