17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the 16th century, showcasing a collection of exquisite costumes. Created by artist Edward May in 1849, this print is a remarkable reproduction based on original images from the 15th and 16th centuries. The image features four distinct characters that represent different social classes and occupations during this era. On the left, we see a patrician dressed in early 16th-century attire, exuding elegance and refinement. In the center stands a man of quality from the mid-16th century, displaying his status through his fashionable clothing. Moving towards the right side of the print, we encounter a bourgeois gentleman adorned in festival clothes typical of late 16th-century celebrations. His vibrant outfit reflects both wealth and joyous spirit. Finally, on the far right stands a squire wearing traditional mid-16th-century garments associated with his noble profession. Edward May's lithography beautifully captures every intricate detail of these historical costumes while maintaining their authenticity. The colors are rich and vivid, allowing us to appreciate each garment's unique design. This print serves as an invaluable resource for anyone interested in fashion history or studying life during this fascinating period. It is part of Le Moyen Age et la Renaissance by Paul Lacroix, Ferdinand Sere, and A Rivaud—a comprehensive volume published in Paris in 1849 that explores various aspects of medieval and Renaissance culture.
