23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Cossack Watch-Tower in The Caucasus, 1875: A Captivating Glimpse into the Past This evocative photograph, titled "Cossack Watch-Tower in The Caucasus," dates back to the 1870s and is an exquisite example of the rich cultural and historical heritage of the Caucasus region. The image is taken from Henry Walter Bates' "Illustrated Travels," published by Cassell, Petter, and Galpin in London around 1880. The photograph captures a Cossack watchtower, a symbol of strength and vigilance, nestled amidst the rugged landscape of the Caucasus Mountains. The tower, with its distinctive conical roof and tall, narrow silhouette, stands proudly against the backdrop of the vast, open countryside. A group of Cossacks, the legendary horse-riding warriors of the region, are shown in the foreground, their horses tethered nearby. The watchtower served as a vital lookout point for these nomadic people, providing protection against invaders and ensuring the safety of their communities. The photograph offers a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the Cossacks during the 19th century. Their traditional attire, with fur hats and long coats, is evident, adding to the authenticity of the scene. The image also highlights the region's natural beauty, with the rolling hills, dense forests, and clear blue sky providing a stunning contrast to the rugged watchtower. This photograph is a testament to the rich history and cultural diversity of the Caucasus region, a place where the past and the present intertwine, and where the spirit of the Cossacks continues to live on. The image, taken by an unknown photographer, remains a captivating reminder of a bygone era and a powerful reminder of the enduring allure of travel and exploration.
