23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

The Cheat with the Ace of Diamonds

EDITORS COMMENTS
is a captivating painting by Georges de La Tour, created around 1635. This intriguing artwork, housed in the prestigious Louvre Museum in Paris, depicts a scene from a card game set in 17th-century France. In this mesmerizing composition, La Tour skillfully captures the tension and deceit that often accompany gambling. The central figure, illuminated by a single candlelight source, is shown manipulating the ace of diamonds - an emblematic symbol of trickery and dishonesty. His cunning expression hints at his intentions to deceive his fellow players. The artist's mastery of light and shadow creates a dramatic atmosphere within this baroque masterpiece. The dimly lit room enhances the clandestine nature of the game while emphasizing each character's facial expressions and gestures. Through their animated postures and intense gazes, we are transported into this world of high-stakes gambling. La Tour's attention to detail extends beyond capturing human emotions; he also meticulously renders every element on the table - playing cards scattered haphazardly alongside coins and dice. These objects serve as visual cues for viewers to immerse themselves further into this gripping narrative. "The Cheat with the Ace of Diamonds" not only showcases La Tour's technical brilliance but also offers us insight into societal attitudes towards gambling during that era. Its enduring appeal lies in its ability to captivate audiences across centuries through its timeless portrayal of human vices and moral dilemmas associated with games of chance.
