AI IMAGE - Portrait of Fidel Castro, 1970s, (2023). Marxist-Leninist Cuban nationalist, revolutionary and politician Fidel Castro (1926-2016) was the leader of Cuba from 1959 to 2008. He served as prime minister, president, and first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba. Castro converted Cuba into a one-party, socialist state under Communist Party rule, the first in the Western Hemisphere. Policies introducing central economic planning and expanding healthcare and education were accompanied by state control of the press and the suppression of internal dissent. Western critics call him a dictator whose administration oversaw human rights abuses, the exodus of many Cubans, and the impoverishment of the country's economy. His supporters, on the other hand, view him as a champion of socialism and anti-imperialism whose revolutionary government advanced economic and social justice while securing Cuba's independence from US power

31"x27" (79x69cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 24x20 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 31x27 inches (787x685mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This portrait of Fidel Castro, captured in the 1970s, offers a glimpse into the complex and polarizing figure who led Cuba from 1959 to 2008. Born in 1926, Castro was a Marxist-Leninist Cuban nationalist, revolutionary, and politician who transformed Cuba into a one-party socialist state under Communist Party rule, the first in the Western Hemisphere. His tenure was marked by significant policy changes, including the introduction of central economic planning, expansion of healthcare and education, and state control of the press. However, his administration was also criticized for human rights abuses, suppression of internal dissent, and the exodus of many Cubans, leading to the impoverishment of the country's economy. Castro's legacy remains a subject of intense debate, with some viewing him as a champion of socialism and anti-imperialism who advanced economic and social justice while securing Cuba's independence from US power, while others see him as a dictator. This Heritage Images photograph, taken in the 1970s, provides a poignant reminder of the enduring impact of Fidel Castro's leadership on Cuban history and global politics.
