17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a momentous event in history - the departure of the Eagle, a balloon that Salomon August Andree hoped would take him to the North Pole. Dated 11 July 1897, this illustration from a contemporary English newspaper showcases the audacity and ambition of early explorers. Salomon August Andree was an intrepid Swedish explorer who dedicated his life to reaching uncharted territories. With the Eagle as his vessel, he aimed to conquer one of Earth's last frontiers - the elusive North Pole. This image encapsulates both his determination and the spirit of adventure that defined turn-of-the-century exploration. The balloon itself is an impressive feat of engineering for its time, symbolizing mankind's relentless pursuit of conquering nature's mysteries. Its grandeur against Spitzbergen's backdrop evokes a sense of awe and wonderment. However, fate had different plans for Andree and his expedition. Tragically, they never returned from their daring journey, leaving behind only unanswered questions and speculation about their final moments. Nevertheless, this photograph immortalizes not just Andree but also all those brave souls who dared to dream beyond known horizons. It serves as a reminder that even in failure lies great courage and resilience. As we gaze upon this historical artifact today, we are reminded of humanity's insatiable thirst for discovery and our eternal quest to push boundaries – no matter how treacherous or uncertain they may be.
