Imambara In Lucknow

The imambara (Shia congregation hall) and the tomb of Asaph-ud-Daula in Lucknow, India, 1858. The imambara was stormed during the second relief attempt by British forces under Sir Colin Campbell on the besieged city, during the Indian Rebellion (also known as the First War of Indian Independence or the Indian Mutiny). Room Diry

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage print takes us back to the year 1858, amidst the chaos of the Indian Rebellion in Lucknow, India. The image showcases the grandeur of Imambara, a significant Shia congregation hall, and the tomb of Asaph-ud-Daula. Standing tall against a sepia-toned backdrop, this architectural marvel exudes an air of mystery and resilience. The photograph captures a pivotal moment in history when British forces led by Sir Colin Campbell attempted to relieve the besieged city during the Indian Mutiny. It is said that it was within these very walls that intense battles were fought as both sides fiercely clashed for control. Felice Beato's lens skillfully freezes this poignant scene devoid of any human presence. The absence of people allows us to focus on the sheer magnitude and intricate details of Imambara's design. Its domes and minarets reach towards the sky while its ornate archways beckon exploration. As we gaze upon this black-and-white masterpiece, we are transported back in time to witness firsthand how architecture can serve as a silent witness to tumultuous events. This print serves as a reminder not only of Lucknow's rich cultural heritage but also highlights humanity's indomitable spirit even in times of strife. A true testament to Felice Beato's artistic prowess and historical significance, this print from Fine Art Storehouse invites us into an immersive journey through time – one where past meets present through visual storytelling at its finest.
