17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of ancient Greek history and art. The image showcases fragments of a fresco from Knossos, an archaeological site in Crete, with modern restorations. Dating back to approximately 1450-1400 BC, this artwork was created by the Greek school during the 14th-15th century BC. The focal point of the fresco is a group of soldiers at full sprint, their muscular bodies frozen in action. These mercenaries are believed to be part of an ancient military force known as "Captain of the Blacks" as depicted in Arthur Evans' reconstruction drawing. The restoration work on this piece has brought these soldiers back to life, allowing us to appreciate their strength and determination. As we gaze upon this artifact from ancient Greece, we can't help but marvel at its historical significance. It offers a glimpse into a time when warfare played a crucial role in society and highlights the skillful craftsmanship that existed even thousands of years ago. The fragmented nature of the painting adds an air of mystery and intrigue, leaving us yearning for more details about its original context. This artwork serves as a reminder that even though time may have eroded some aspects of our past, there are still remnants waiting to be discovered and cherished. Displayed at the Ashmolean Museum at the University of Oxford in the UK, this print invites us to delve deeper into our collective human history while appreciating both ancient artistry and modern restoration techniques.
