Early Photography Photographic Technique Black And White Photograph
17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, titled "Boulevard du Temple, Paris, 3rd arrondissement, 1838" takes us back in time to the early days of photography. Captured by Louis Jacques Mande Daguerre himself, this daguerreotype print is believed to be the earliest photograph showing a living person. As we gaze at this historic image, our eyes are drawn to two men near the bottom left corner. One man seems engrossed in having his boots polished while the other diligently tends to his task. These two figures are the only ones who remained still long enough for their presence to be captured on film. The street scene depicted here showcases a bustling Parisian atmosphere from over 180 years ago. The buildings lining Boulevard du Temple stand tall and proud as witnesses of time gone by. This photograph not only serves as a visual record but also transports us into an era when photography was just beginning its journey towards becoming one of humanity's most cherished art forms. With its remarkable clarity and attention to detail despite being monochromatic, this daguerreotype print reminds us of the incredible advancements made in photographic techniques since then. It stands as a testament to both Daguerre's pioneering spirit and his mastery of capturing moments frozen in time. Thanks to Bridgeman Images' preservation efforts, we can now appreciate this piece of history that forever immortalizes a fragment of life on Boulevard du Temple in 1838 Paris.
