23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This woodblock print, titled "Syllable - Ni from the series Tales of Ise in Fashionable Brocade Prints" transports us to 18th century Japan. Created by the talented artist Shunsho Katsukawa, this print measures 21.7x15.6 cm and is currently housed at the Maidstone Museum and Art Gallery in Kent, UK. Part of a larger series depicting scenes from the renowned 11th-century novel Tales of Ise, this particular print showcases a lady courtier adorned in an exquisite kimono with a striking peony design. Her elegant posture is accentuated by her extended fan as she stands on a serene sea beach, framed by one solitary pine tree. The dominant color palette ranges from green to yellow-green, complemented by subtle shades of sepia brown and pale orange. The background features undulating waves crashing against rocky shores, creating a sense of movement and tranquility simultaneously. At the top corner of each print in this series is a single character enclosed within a circle—a unique touch that adds depth and symbolism to each composition. Through this artwork, we are invited into the world of Japanese literature and fashion during the Edo period (1603-1868). It captures both natural beauty—represented by the sea, rocks, trees—and cultural elements such as traditional attire and artistic expression through woodblock printing techniques. Overall, this mesmerizing piece offers viewers an enchanting glimpse into ancient tales woven together with artistry and imagination.
