17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the historic moment of Amerigo Vespucci's landing in America, beautifully engraved by Theodor Galle. In this artwork, created by Jan van der Straet (Giovanni Stradano), we witness the arrival of the renowned Italian navigator and explorer on the shores of a new continent. Amerigo Vespucci, a close friend and companion of Christopher Columbus, is depicted standing tall amidst his crew on a majestic galleon. With his trusty sextant in hand, he gazes out towards the unknown horizon with determination and curiosity. As he sets foot on this uncharted land, Vespucci claims to be the first to reach mainland America. The scene is filled with symbolism and rich details that transport us back to that era. A Christian banner flutters proudly atop one of the ship's masts while a cross stands firmly planted in the ground as a testament to their faith. Native inhabitants observe this foreign arrival from afar, their presence marked by columns of smoke rising from distant fires. Intriguingly, amidst all these elements lie hints at both nature's beauty and its primitive realities. A nude female figure rests peacefully in a hammock nearby while exotic animals like tapirs roam freely alongside horses brought from Europe. This remarkable engraving not only commemorates Amerigo Vespucci's significant role in history but also serves as an exploration into early encounters between different cultures – an evocative reminder of our shared human journey across time and continents
