17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This poignant photograph captures a heartbreaking scene from the year 1850. In this image, we see an unmarried mother and her baby, both utterly exhausted, found by the roadside. The artist behind this illustration is Mary Ellen Edwards, an English artist known for her prolific work in illustrating children's books. The picture speaks volumes about the harsh realities faced by those living in poverty during the 19th century in England. It portrays the struggles of unwedded mothers who were often left to fend for themselves and their infants without any support or resources. The vulnerability of the baby is palpable as it rests on its mother's shoulder, seeking comfort amidst their dire circumstances. The worn-out expressions on their faces tell a story of hardship and despair that was all too common during that era. Mary Ellen Edwards' skillful brushwork brings out every detail with precision, capturing not only the physical exhaustion but also conveying a sense of emotional turmoil within these two individuals. This photograph serves as a powerful reminder of societal issues such as illegitimacy and poverty that plagued England during the 19th century. It prompts us to reflect on how far we have come in terms of social progress while also reminding us of our responsibility to continue working towards creating a more equitable society for all.
