Cotton Lancashire Mahatma Gandhi Mill Mills North Solidarity

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a significant moment in history, showcasing Mahatma Gandhi alongside cotton mill workers during his visit to Lancashire. Taken by an English photographer in the 20th century, this image is now part of a private collection. The photograph portrays the iconic leader standing amidst a group of hardworking laborers, symbolizing unity and solidarity between different social classes. The setting is one of industrial prowess, with towering mills serving as the backdrop for this historic encounter. It serves as a powerful reminder of the early 20th-century era when Lancashire was at the heart of Britain's booming cotton industry. Gandhi's visit to Lancashire took place in September 1931, during which he sought support from British workers for India's independence movement. This image encapsulates that mission perfectly - Gandhi engaging directly with those whose lives were deeply intertwined with cotton production. The significance of this photograph extends beyond its historical context; it represents hope and resilience against oppression. It reminds us that even in times of great struggle, individuals can come together to fight for justice and equality. As we gaze upon this remarkable piece captured by Bridgeman Images' lens, we are transported back to an important chapter in human history where Mahatma Gandhi stood shoulder-to-shoulder with ordinary people who shared his vision for change.
