King David and Charity, c. 1896 (stained glass)

3057870 King David and Charity, c.1896 (stained glass) by Burne-Jones, Edward Coley (1833-98); Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK; (add.info.: The two windows were commissioned in 1896 for the East end of St Cuthberts Church, Melbourne Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, which was demolished in 1969. They illustrate two episodes from the Bible showing King David weeping and praying for the life of his sick child, and then accepting with fortitude the childs death. The windows commemorated Arthur Gibson who died in 1894 aged 39, and his children Rex, who died the same year, and Phoebe, who died in 1892.); eTyne & Wear Archives & Museums; English, out of copyright

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the stunning stained glass artwork titled "King David and Charity" by Edward Coley Burne-Jones. Created in 1896, these two windows were originally commissioned for St Cuthberts Church in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK. Unfortunately, the church was demolished in 1969, but this photograph preserves the beauty of Burne-Jones' masterpiece. The stained glass windows depict two poignant episodes from the Bible involving King David. In one scene, we see him fervently praying and weeping for his sick child's life. The other panel portrays King David accepting his child's tragic death with unwavering fortitude. These windows were dedicated to Arthur Gibson, who passed away at a young age along with his children Rex and Phoebe. Burne-Jones masterfully captures the emotions and symbolism within each pane of glass. The intricate mosaic style combined with elements of Arts and Crafts movement exemplify British artistry from the late 19th century. King David is depicted seated on an ornate throne holding a sceptre while wearing a crown, symbolizing his regal status. The figure of Charity is personified as a benevolent woman seated beside King David, representing her virtue as she offers solace during times of sorrow. This pre-Raphaelite masterpiece serves as a testament to Burne-Jones' talent and craftsmanship. Thanks to this print from Fine Art Finder by Bridgeman Images, viewers can appreciate the rich history behind these extraordinary stained glass windows that once adorned St Cuthberts Church in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
