FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the hauntingly tragic scene of "Sappho and Leucade, also known as The Death of Sappho". Painted by Baron Antoine Jean Gros in oil on canvas, this artwork depicts the legendary tale of Sappho's demise. According to legend, after an unhappy love affair, Sappho took her own life off the coast of Epirus. In this image, we see a female figure leaping from a rock into the moonlit sea below. Clutching a lyre in her hand, she is portrayed mid-air, frozen in time as she commits suicide. The artist skillfully conveys both the physical act of falling and the emotional turmoil that led to this tragic end. The monochromatic palette adds to the somber atmosphere surrounding Sappho's story. The absence of color allows us to focus solely on her despair and unhappiness rather than being distracted by vibrant hues. Gros masterfully captures not only the external action but also delves into deeper themes such as love lost and personal anguish. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of human suffering throughout history and invites contemplation on topics like mental health and societal pressures. Displayed at Musee Baron Gerard in Bayeux, France, this powerful piece continues to resonate with viewers today despite its creation over two centuries ago. It stands as a testament to Gros' artistic prowess while immortalizing one of history's most enigmatic figures - Sappho.
