A New Kind of Pawn (Colour Litho)

2778218 A New Kind of Pawn (Colour Litho) by Beltrame, Achille (1871-1945); Private Collection; (add.info.: A new kind of pawn. Traveling by car through a forest in South Africa, a tourist ran over a hippo that suddenly appeared. Frightened by the crackling and mysterious investor and bruised by the unexpected impact, the pachyderm lent no other resistance than that of its own weight and escaped staggering, but leaving the car... more bruised than him. 17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

A New Kind of Pawn

EDITORS COMMENTS
is a captivating print that tells a thrilling story set in the heart of South Africa's lush forests. In this dramatic scene, we witness the aftermath of an unexpected encounter between a tourist's car and a formidable hippopotamus. As the tourist drove through the forest, unaware of what lay ahead, fate took an alarming turn. Suddenly, a massive hippo emerged from the shadows, causing panic and chaos. The crackling sound of breaking branches filled the air as the car collided with this majestic creature. Despite its immense power and anger, the wounded hippo chose not to retaliate further than using its sheer weight against its assailant. With staggering steps, it managed to escape into the depths of the jungle while leaving behind a bruised vehicle and bewildered passengers. This extraordinary illustration originally appeared in Courier Sunday on December 31st, 1933. It serves as a reminder that even in nature's most serene landscapes, danger can lurk around every corner. The image captures both fear and awe-inspiring beauty simultaneously - showcasing South Africa's diverse wildlife and highlighting our vulnerability when faced with untamed creatures. "A New Kind of Pawn" transports us to that moment where man meets beast in an unforgettable clash within nature's realm.
