NASAs Curiosity Mars rover on planet Mars

April 27, 2014 - NASAs Curiosity Mars rover used the camera at the end of its arm in April and May 2014 to take dozens of component images combined into this self-portrait where the rover drilled into a sandstone target called Windjana. The camera is the Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI).
Winjana is within a science waypoint site called The Kimberley, where sandstone layers with different degrees of resistance to wind erosion are exposed close together.
The view does not include the rovers arm. It does include the hole in Windjana produced by the hammering drill on Curiositys arm collecting a sample of rock powder from the interior of the rock. The hole is surrounded by grayish cuttings on top of the rock ledge to the left of the rover. The Mast Camera (Mastcam) atop the rovers remote sensing mast is pointed at the drill hole

Experience the awe-inspiring journey to Mars with our Media Storehouse Poster Prints featuring the iconic image of NASA's Curiosity Rover. Captured by Stocktrek Images on April 27, 2014, this breathtaking self-portrait shows the rover in action, drilling into the Martian terrain. Relive the historic moment when Curiosity explored the Red Planet like never before. Our high-quality poster prints bring the wonder of space exploration right into your home or office.

A2 Poster (59.4 x 42cm, 23.4" x 16.5" inches) printed on 170gsm Satin Poster Paper. Securely packaged, rolled and inserted into a strong mailing tube and shipped tracked. Poster Prints are of comparable archival quality to our Photographic prints, they are simply printed on thinner Poster Paper. Whilst we only use Photographic Prints in our frames, you can frame Poster Prints if they are carefully supported to prevent sagging over time.

Poster prints are budget friendly enlarged prints in standard poster paper sizes (A0, A1, A2, A3 etc). Whilst poster paper is sometimes thinner and less durable than our other paper types, they are still ok for framing and should last many years. Our Archival Quality Photo Prints and Fine Art Paper Prints are printed on higher quality paper and the choice of which largely depends on your budget.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases NASA's Curiosity Mars rover on the red planet itself. Taken in April and May 2014, this self-portrait was created by combining dozens of component images captured by the rover's Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI). The image reveals the rover drilling into a sandstone target called Windjana within a science waypoint site known as The Kimberley. The landscape surrounding Windjana is mesmerizing, with different layers of sandstone displaying varying degrees of resistance to wind erosion. Although the rover's arm is not visible in this shot, one can clearly see the hole created by its hammering drill as it collected rock powder from inside Windjana. Grayish cuttings can be seen atop a rock ledge to the left of Curiosity. With its Mast Camera pointed at the drill hole, this photograph provides an intriguing glimpse into Curiosity's mission on Mars. This robotic spacecraft serves as a mobile laboratory, studying and analyzing Martian terrain while examining landforms and features. Equipped with advanced technology and engineering innovations, Curiosity represents humanity's adventurous spirit and our relentless pursuit of scientific discovery. As we marvel at this breathtaking view from space, we are reminded of NASA's ongoing efforts to explore new frontiers and expand our understanding of our neighboring planets. This image captures both the barren beauty of Mars' landscape and the incredible capabilities of human-made machines that enable us to venture further into space exploration.
