LEP collider tunnel, CERN
Special effects photograph of LEP, the Large Electron-Positron collider at CERN, the European centre for particle physics near Geneva. LEP accelerates electrons & positrons to an energy of 50 GeV. It is housed in a circular tunnel 100m underground & 27km in circumference. The particles travel in opposite directions inside a narrow aluminium pipe which passes through large electromagnets. Test instruments sit on top of the magnets in this picture taken shortly before LEP started operations in July 1989. The particles collide at 4 points around the ring, where their interactions are recorded by 4 giant particle detectors.. Photo taken April 1989

Our high-quality poster prints are perfect for scientific institutions, laboratories, or anyone with a passion for science and technology. Immerse yourself in the beauty and intrigue of the LEP collider tunnel at CERN with this captivating poster print from Media Storehouse."
A2 Poster (59.4 x 42cm, 23.4" x 16.5" inches) printed on 170gsm Satin Poster Paper. Securely packaged, rolled and inserted into a strong mailing tube and shipped tracked. Poster Prints are of comparable archival quality to our Photographic prints, they are simply printed on thinner Poster Paper. Whilst we only use Photographic Prints in our frames, you can frame Poster Prints if they are carefully supported to prevent sagging over time.
Poster prints are budget friendly enlarged prints in standard poster paper sizes (A0, A1, A2, A3 etc). Whilst poster paper is sometimes thinner and less durable than our other paper types, they are still ok for framing and should last many years. Our Archival Quality Photo Prints and Fine Art Paper Prints are printed on higher quality paper and the choice of which largely depends on your budget.
Estimated Image Size (if not cropped) is 53.8cm x 42cm (21.2" x 16.5")
Estimated Product Size is 59.4cm x 42cm (23.4" x 16.5")
These are individually made so all sizes are approximate

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the LEP collider tunnel, located at CERN, the renowned European center for particle physics near Geneva. The image is a special effects photograph that beautifully captures the essence of LEP, an extraordinary scientific marvel. Within this circular tunnel, situated 100 meters underground and spanning an impressive 27 kilometers in circumference, electrons and positrons are accelerated to an astounding energy level of 50 GeV. The narrow aluminium pipe that runs through large electromagnets serves as the conduit for these particles traveling in opposite directions. In this mesmerizing snapshot taken just before LEP commenced operations in July 1989, one can observe various test instruments positioned atop the magnets. At four distinct points around the ring-shaped structure, collisions between these high-energy particles occur. These interactions are meticulously recorded by four colossal particle detectors strategically placed within the tunnel. This particular photograph was captured in April 1989 and offers a glimpse into the intricate inner workings of this groundbreaking accelerator. With its fusion of artistry and scientific brilliance, this print from Science Photo Library transports us back to a pivotal moment in particle physics history when humanity's understanding of matter took a quantum leap forward.
