Mercury hemisphere, MESSENGER image C016 / 9722

Mercury hemisphere, MESSENGER image. North is at top. This image is centred at longitude 220 degrees West. The colours show chemical and mineralogical differences between the rocks. Crater rays from fresh impacts, are light blue or white. Medium-blue and dark-blue areas may be a dark, opaque mineral. Tan areas are volcanic lava plains. At upper right is the impact feature the Caloris Basin (tan). Mercury, the closest planet to the Sun, is 4880 kilometres across. MESSENGER entered orbit around Mercury in March 2011. Image published in 2013, using data from the MDIS Wide Angle Camera. For the other side of the planet, see image C016/9721

This captivating image showcases the Mercury hemisphere as captured by the MESSENGER spacecraft from NASA, Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, and the Carnegie Institution of Washington. With striking color representation, this print highlights the chemical and mineralogical differences between Mercury's rocks, making it an excellent addition to any space enthusiast's collection or educational environment. Explore the mysteries of our universe with Media Storehouse's high-quality, museum-grade Poster Prints.

A2 Poster (59.4 x 42cm, 23.4" x 16.5" inches) printed on 170gsm Satin Poster Paper. Securely packaged, rolled and inserted into a strong mailing tube and shipped tracked. Poster Prints are of comparable archival quality to our Photographic prints, they are simply printed on thinner Poster Paper. Whilst we only use Photographic Prints in our frames, you can frame Poster Prints if they are carefully supported to prevent sagging over time.

Poster prints are budget friendly enlarged prints in standard poster paper sizes (A0, A1, A2, A3 etc). Whilst poster paper is sometimes thinner and less durable than our other paper types, they are still ok for framing and should last many years. Our Archival Quality Photo Prints and Fine Art Paper Prints are printed on higher quality paper and the choice of which largely depends on your budget.

Estimated Image Size (if not cropped) is 59.4cm x 33.4cm (23.4" x 13.1")

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures a mesmerizing view of the Mercury hemisphere, taken by the MESSENGER spacecraft. With its north at the top, this image showcases the planet's unique features and geological variations. The colors displayed in this image represent different chemical and mineralogical differences between rocks on Mercury's surface. The light blue or white crater rays visible are remnants of fresh impacts, while medium-blue and dark-blue areas may indicate the presence of a dark, opaque mineral. The tan regions seen in this photograph are volcanic lava plains that add to the planet's diverse landscape. At the upper right corner of the image lies an impact feature known as Caloris Basin, characterized by its tan coloration. This basin is one of Mercury's prominent landmarks. Measuring approximately 4880 kilometers across, Mercury holds significance as being our solar system's closest planet to the Sun. MESSENGER entered orbit around Mercury in March 2011 and has provided invaluable data for scientific research. Published in 2013 using data from MDIS Wide Angle Camera, this print offers us a glimpse into Mercury's mysterious world. Its spherical shape against a black background adds to its allure while reminding us of our place within our vast universe.
