This print showcases the intricate internal anatomy of a locust, providing a glimpse into its fascinating reproductive and excretory systems. In this light micrograph, we are presented with a transverse section that reveals both the gut and part of the male reproductive system. On the right side of the image, we observe the locust gut in the region of the ileum. Encircling it are five small tubes known as Malpighian tubules. These remarkable structures play a crucial role in filtering out nitrogenous waste from the locust's body and transporting it to be eliminated through its gut. Moving towards the left side, our attention is drawn to an intriguing arrangement of six hollow tubes surrounding a central pink tubule. These components form parts of the male reproductive system. The dark purple coloration represents accessory glands while their central counterpart is identified as an ejaculatory duct.
