Designer babies

Designer babies. Conceptual computer artwork of human babies and two strands of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), representing designer babies. The genetic screening of human embryos for desired characteristics, such as eye colour or sex, might in theory allow parents to " design" a child. Screening for certain inherited disorders is widely performed, however screening on non- medical grounds is highly controversial. DNA, the genetic material present in every cell of the body, is comprised of two spiralling strands (blue). The sequence encoded on it makes up an individuals unique genetic code

A2 Poster (59.4 x 42cm, 23.4" x 16.5" inches) printed on 170gsm Satin Poster Paper. Securely packaged, rolled and inserted into a strong mailing tube and shipped tracked. Poster Prints are of comparable archival quality to our Photographic prints, they are simply printed on thinner Poster Paper. Whilst we only use Photographic Prints in our frames, you can frame Poster Prints if they are carefully supported to prevent sagging over time.

Poster prints are budget friendly enlarged prints in standard poster paper sizes (A0, A1, A2, A3 etc). Whilst poster paper is sometimes thinner and less durable than our other paper types, they are still ok for framing and should last many years. Our Archival Quality Photo Prints and Fine Art Paper Prints are printed on higher quality paper and the choice of which largely depends on your budget.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This thought-provoking print captures the concept of designer babies through a mesmerizing blend of engineering and illustration. The image showcases two adorable human babies surrounded by two strands of DNA, symbolizing the potential for designing children with desired characteristics. In theory, genetic screening during embryo development could enable parents to customize their child's eye color or even gender. While screening for inherited disorders is widely accepted, this controversial practice raises ethical concerns when used for non-medical reasons. The intricate blue spiraling strands represent DNA, which holds an individual's unique genetic code in every cell of their body. This visual representation emphasizes the significance and complexity of our biological makeup. The artwork serves as a reminder that advancements in embryology and genetic engineering have opened doors to unprecedented possibilities. However, it also prompts us to reflect on the moral implications associated with manipulating nature's course. By showcasing this conceptual computer artwork, Science Photo Library invites viewers to contemplate the delicate balance between scientific progress and societal values. It encourages discussions around bioethics, cloning, genetics, and medical advancements while urging us to consider how far we are willing to go in shaping future generations according to our preferences.
