This stunning relief depicts the ancient Egyptian god Ra, the sun god, in his falcon form, soaring above the head of Pharaoh Ramses II. The relief is a testament to the rich mythological and religious beliefs of the ancient Egyptian civilization during the New Kingdom period, specifically the 19th Dynasty (13th century BC). The relief was discovered in the Ramesseum, the mortuary temple of Ramses II, located in the Necropolis of Thebes, on the west bank of the Nile in Egypt. The temple, built between 1279 and 1213 BC, was dedicated to the god Amun-Ra and served as a memorial temple for the pharaoh. In this relief, Ra is depicted with the solar disk between his wings, symbolizing his role as the god of the sun. The goddess Wadjet, represented as a cobra, is shown on the pharaoh's head, symbolizing his divine protection and kingship.
