This exquisite hand-colored etching depicts the Mormyrus ex cinereo nigricans, commonly known as the bone-fish or elephantfish, as illustrated in Mark Catesby's seminal work, "The Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands" published in 1731.
