Discover the underwater ballet of the Albula vulpes, or bonefish, as they gracefully dart through crystal-clear waters. With a body shaped like a long, bonelike bar, these elusive creatures are often mistaken for bones. Their lower jaws contain small teeth, perfect for crushing the eggs of fish and lower animals. In the 1895 engraving, the Halosaur (Aldrovandia affinis) hovers above, a rare sighting in the depths. Today, anglers use a digital illustration of a flat-fishing set-up with a single fly to lure these wary fish. But beware, the Thyrsites atun, or barracuda, lurks nearby, ready to pounce on the unsuspecting bonefish.
