Jonah, the Minor Prophet of the Old Testament, is depicted in this engraving from the "Sacred Bible" of Martin Luther, printed in Frankfurt in 1704. In the image, Jonah is shown sitting on a rocky beach, deep in thought, with the vast ocean stretching out behind him. The prophet, dressed in white, looks contemplative and introspective, his expression reflecting the profound nature of his divine calling. Jonah's story is one of obedience and redemption. According to the biblical account, God commanded Jonah to travel to the city of Nineveh and warn its inhabitants to repent of their wicked ways.
