The artwork, created by Antonio Tempesta, an Italian artist from Florence, depicts a scene of war between the Romans and the Batavians. This etching is part of the renowned series called "Romanorvm et Batavorvm Societas" which was first issued in 1611. In this particular image, we witness the intense battle as the new Roman troops face unexpected resistance from the Batavians.
