Calgary Olympics - Bobsleigh

Bobsleigh - 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics - Mens Four Training
The Jamaica team - Dudley Stokes, Devon Harris, Michael White, Chris Stokes - during the start phase in training at the Canada Olympic Park, Calgary.
It was the first time Jamaica had entered the Winter Olympics in any sport. In their third run in the competition proper their bob overturned and slid down the track with the crew members? helmets scraping the ice wall. Thankfully the team were unhurt, and the image of them walking across the finish line alongside their bobsleigh became one of the enduring sights of the 1988 Olympics. Later their story was the loose basis for the film Cool Runnings

This iconic print captures a historic moment in sports history - the Jamaican bobsleigh team's debut at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. In this image, Dudley Stokes, Devon Harris, Michael White, and Chris Stokes can be seen during the intense start phase of their training at Canada Olympic Park. The significance of this photograph lies not only in its representation of determination and teamwork but also in the incredible journey these athletes embarked upon. It marked Jamaica's first-ever participation in the Winter Olympics, defying all odds and expectations. However, it was not without its challenges. During one of their runs in the actual competition, disaster struck as their bob overturned and careened down the track with their helmets scraping against the unforgiving ice wall.
