Singalong at the Safari Park: WeIve heard of captive audiences, but this is ridiculous. Singing to the animals in a wildlife park. We found young keeper Tim Durant singing nBe My Lovei to a bunch of baboons, while in the giraffe enclosure Paul Wiseman was crooning nMoon Riveri to his charges. For an explanation we had a word with Kay Smart. She was down by the pool, serenading the dolphins. nWeIre quite serious about it, i said Kay. nIt soothes them at this time of the year when there are few visitors. And it keeps them used to people. Now youIll have to excuse me. IIve got the killer whale to sing to before lunch.i nYou beautiful Dolls, i the rhino keeper to his charges. May 1975 P000633

Singalong at the Safari Park: We've heard of captive audiences, but this is ridiculous. Singing to the animals in a wildlife park. We found young keeper Tim Durant singing 'Be My Love' to a bunch of baboons, while in the giraffe enclosure Paul Wiseman was crooning 'Moon River' to his charges. For an explanation we had a word with Kay Smart. She was down by the pool, serenading the dolphins. 'We're quite serious about it, ' said Kay. 'It soothes them at this time of year when there are few visitors. And it keeps them used to people. Now you'll have to excuse me, I've got the killer whale to sing to before lunch. ' In this heartwarming snapshot from May 1975, captured by Mirrorpix for Memory Lane Prints, we witness an extraordinary bond between humans and animals at a safari park like no other. These dedicated keepers go above and beyond their duties as they entertain and connect with their animal friends through music. The scene is filled with laughter and joy as each keeper pours their heart out into song for their beloved charges - baboons swaying along with Tim's enchanting voice, giraffes craning their necks towards Paul's melodic tunes, and dolphins gracefully gliding through water as Kay serenades them. This unique approach not only brings entertainment but also serves a purpose - soothing these creatures during quieter times and ensuring they remain comfortable around human presence.
