Millions of Pigeon Racing enthusiasts love their birds, and they stand by their lofts most weekends, awaiting them to return - some fly hundreds of miles, some don t get back. These pictures were taken at the National Championships - Thousands of Pounds in prize money is involved. The 10, 600 Pigeons were taken from Reading to Nantes in Brittany, France and let out. A good birds race at 60 m.p.h. Our picture shows the birds being released at the start of the race. June 1980
