Hollywood star Ray Milland is reunited with Flying Scotsman for its diamond jubilee in

Hollywood star Ray Milland is reunited with Flying Scotsman for its diamond jubilee in 1983. Milland, who was born in Neath, Wales, starred in the 1929 film The Flying Scotsman.
The stunts shown horrified LNEROs chief mechanical engineer Sir Nigel Gresley, who insisted on a safety disclaimer being included in the film. However, this was the first full-length British feature film with sound and Milland was delighted to renew acquaintance with his old co-star at Steamtown shed, Carnforth. This Lancashire town was also the location for one of the greatest railway films, Brief Encounter. Veteran Hollywood actor Ray Milland attended the 60th anniversary party of the famous Flying Scotsman railway engine at Carnforth in Lancashire this week.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, Hollywood star Ray Milland is joyfully reunited with the iconic Flying Scotsman for its diamond jubilee in 1983. Born in Neath, Wales, Milland had previously starred alongside the legendary locomotive in the groundbreaking 1929 film The Flying Scotsman. The daring stunts depicted in the movie had shocked Sir Nigel Gresley, LNEROs chief mechanical engineer, who insisted on including a safety disclaimer. Nevertheless, as the first full-length British feature film with sound, it marked a significant milestone in cinema history. Thus, Milland was thrilled to reconnect with his old co-star at Steamtown shed located in Carnforth. This picturesque Lancashire town also served as the backdrop for one of cinema's most beloved railway films - Brief Encounter. It was within this charming setting that veteran Hollywood actor Ray Milland attended the grand celebration of Flying Scotsman's 60th anniversary party. Capturing an era of entertainment and transport from the 1980s, this nostalgic image showcases not only a remarkable actor but also pays homage to the enduring allure of steam trains and their place within our cultural heritage. Preserved by Daily Mirror's Memory Lane Prints collection, it serves as a timeless reminder of a cherished moment shared between man and machine.
