Psace-Saturn-Moons

This August 1998 NASA file image shows a true color photo of Saturn assembled from Voyager 2 spacecraft. Three of Saturns moons L-R: Tethys, 1, 050 km. (652 mi.) in diameter; Dione, 1, 120 km. (696 mi.); and Rhea, 1, 530 km. (951 mi.) are seen in the image. The shadow of Tethys appears on Saturns southern hemisphere. NASA announced 17 August, 2004 that the Cassini-Huygens space probe discovered two new moons around Saturn, which could be the smallest ever spotted around the ringed planet, NASA officials said Tuesday. The moons, measuring three and four kilometers (about two miles) in diameter, are located 194, 000 and 211, 000 kilometers (120, 500 and 131, 000 miles), respectively, from Saturn. They have been temporarily named S/2004 S1 and S/2004 S2. AFP PHOTO/NASA / AFP PHOTO / NASA / HO

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the breathtaking beauty of Saturn and its moons. Taken in August 1998 by NASA's Voyager 2 spacecraft, this true color image offers a mesmerizing view of the ringed planet. Three of Saturn's prominent moons are prominently featured in this picture, from left to right: Tethys, Dione, and Rhea. Tethys, with a diameter of 1,050 kilometers (652 miles), casts its shadow on Saturn's southern hemisphere, adding an intriguing element to the composition. Dione follows next with a diameter of 1,120 kilometers (696 miles), displaying its distinct features against the backdrop of space. Lastly, Rhea steals the spotlight with its impressive size measuring at 1,530 kilometers (951 miles) in diameter. However, this image represents only part of Saturn's moon family as it was taken before two additional moons were discovered by NASA's Cassini-Huygens space probe in August 2004. These newfound celestial bodies are believed to be among the smallest ever spotted around Saturn; one measures three kilometers (about two miles) in diameter while the other is slightly larger at four kilometers (about two and a half miles). For now, they have been temporarily named S/2004 S1 and S/2004 S2. This remarkable photograph serves as a testament to humanity's exploration and discovery beyond our own planet - unveiling hidden wonders within our vast universe.
