Igor Vasilyevich Kurchatov (1903-1960, right), Soviet nuclear physicist, talking to colleagues at the Leningrad Physical-Technical Institute, Leningrad, Russia. In the 1930s, Kurchatov supervised the construction of what was then the worlds largest cyclotron particle accelerator.
