ExoMars TGO spacecraft at Mars, artwork C016 / 6390
ExoMars TGO spacecraft at Mars, artwork. The Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) is under development by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) as part of the ESAs ExoMars mission. This robotic orbiter-carrier would be launched in January 2016 and reach Mars in October of that year. On board would be the ExoMars EDM stationary lander, which would prepare for the later (2018) ExoMars lander rover. The TGO orbiter would remain in orbit, mapping Mars for sources of methane and other gases

EDITORS COMMENTS
This artwork captures the ExoMars TGO spacecraft in its mission to explore the mysteries of Mars. Developed jointly by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos), this technological marvel embarked on its journey in January 2016, with a planned arrival at Mars in October of that same year. The primary objective of this robotic orbiter-carrier is to map Mars for sources of methane and other gases, utilizing state-of-the-art sensors and sensing technology. On board, it carries the ExoMars EDM stationary lander, which will pave the way for a future rover landing in 2018. As depicted in this futuristic illustration, solar panels adorn the spacecraft's exterior, harnessing energy from our nearest star to power its scientific endeavors. The sleek design showcases humanity's relentless pursuit of knowledge as we venture further into space exploration. With its solitary presence orbiting above Martian landscapes, this unmanned satellite represents a remarkable feat of engineering and ingenuity. It symbolizes our collective ambition to unravel the secrets hidden within our neighboring planet while pushing boundaries beyond what was previously thought possible. In an era defined by cutting-edge research and technological advancements, projects like ExoMars TGO remind us that human curiosity knows no bounds. As we delve deeper into understanding our place in the universe, such missions serve as beacons illuminating new frontiers waiting to be explored.
