The Welsh and English can drink together now on Sunday in the Lion Hotel at the village

The Welsh and English can drink together now on Sunday in the Lion Hotel at the village of Llanymynech, on the borders of Montgomeryshire and Shropshire following the result of the Welsh referendum on Sunday opening for licensed premises.
Previously the hotel was only half open on Sundays because the Wales - England border line ran through the hotel and meant that only the English side could legally sell drinks.

The Welsh and English Unite - A Historic Moment at the Lion Hotel

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this photo print, we witness a joyous occasion that marked a significant turning point in the relationship between Wales and England. The image captures Welshman Derek Southerton and Englishman Tony King raising their glasses in celebration, symbolizing newfound unity between these two nations. Until recently, an invisible barrier divided the Lion Hotel on Sundays due to its unfortunate location along the border of Montgomeryshire and Shropshire. This meant that only one side could legally serve alcohol while the other remained closed. However, following the result of the Welsh referendum on Sunday opening for licensed premises, both sides can now come together harmoniously. The atmosphere within the hotel lounge radiates happiness as Derek and Tony touch glasses over this once-divisive border line. Their beaming smiles reflect not only personal satisfaction but also a collective triumph for both communities. This photograph serves as a powerful reminder of how progress can bridge longstanding divides. It encapsulates an era when boundaries were broken down, allowing friendships to flourish across borders. As we gaze upon this snapshot from November 10th, 1968, we are reminded of the importance of shared experiences and our ability to overcome differences through understanding and cooperation. Let us raise our own glasses in tribute to this historic moment – a testament to friendship prevailing over division – forever captured by Liverpool Echo's Memory Lane Prints.
