Putting on the style, with their best feet forward are women clog dancers demonstrating

Putting on the style, with their best feet forward are women clog dancers demonstrating their skills in the Pump Room Gardens, Leamington. The White Horse Cloggies, from Leamington, were among the dancers who entertained a large crowd at the 14th annual festival organised by the Milverton Folk Dance Group. The group affiliated to the English Folk Dance and Song Society, were joined at the highly successful festival by dancers and solo performers from a wide area. These included the King Henry VIII School Mummers (Coventry), who presented " St George and the Dragon, " the Adderbury Morris Men (Oxford), the Wayfarers Folk Dance Club (Birmingham) and the Lillington Folk Dance Group. There was also a contribution from the Leamington branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, and a solo performance of Scottish dancing by Wendy Shakespeare. The festival concluded with a dance at Leamington College For Girls.

Putting on the Style - A Celebration of Dance and Tradition

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this photo print, women clog dancers from the White Horse Cloggies in Leamington take center stage, showcasing their incredible skills in the picturesque Pump Room Gardens. The 14th annual festival organized by the Milverton Folk Dance Group brought together a diverse range of performers who delighted a large crowd with their mesmerizing routines. Affiliated to the esteemed English Folk Dance and Song Society, this festival was a true celebration of cultural heritage and artistic expression. Alongside the talented clog dancers, other groups such as the King Henry VIII School Mummers from Coventry presented an enthralling rendition of "St George and the Dragon" while Adderbury Morris Men from Oxford added their own unique flair to proceedings. The Wayfarers Folk Dance Club from Birmingham and Lillington Folk Dance Group also contributed to this highly successful event. Additionally, there were delightful performances by Wendy Shakespeare showcasing Scottish dancing, highlighting the rich tapestry of dance traditions represented at this festival. As dusk settled over Leamington College For Girls, where a grand finale dance took place, it was evident that this gathering had not only entertained but also fostered a sense of community spirit through shared appreciation for traditional dance forms. This remarkable photograph captured by Brian Walkeden transports us back to June 25th, 1977 when these passionate performers put their best feet forward in an unforgettable display of talent and style.
