This evocative image transports us back in time to the bustling Meux Brewery, also known as The Horse Shoe Brewery, in central London during the late 19th century. Established in 1764, this historic English brewery was a major producer of porter, a popular and richly flavored beer style. By the mid-1800s, the brewery had grown significantly, with its large, red-brick buildings and expansive grounds housing the latest brewing technology and employing hundreds of workers. The photo captures the hive of activity within the brewery, with horse-drawn carts lining the streets outside, delivering raw materials and transporting finished barrels of porter. Inside, malted barley is being unloaded from sacks, ready to be mashed and transformed into wort.
