Kaprosuchus prehistoric crocodiles
Kaprosuchus prehistoric crocodiles. Computer artwork of Kaprosuchus sp. crocodyliforme reptiles under baobab (Adansonia sp.) trees by the side of a river, 95 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period, in what is now Africa. These distant relatives of the crocodile weighed around 1 ton each and measured around 20 feet long. They are known for their boar-like tusks that project above and below the skull (lending it the nickname BoarCroc). With legs longer than modern crocodiles, Kaprosuchus may have roamed Africas plains in search of prey, which likely included dinosaurs

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the Late Cretaceous period, 95 million years ago, when Kaprosuchus prehistoric crocodiles roamed the African landscape. The computer artwork beautifully depicts these ancient reptiles under the shade of majestic baobab trees by the side of a river. Weighing around 1 ton each and measuring approximately 20 feet long, Kaprosuchus were distant relatives of modern-day crocodiles but with some unique features. Their most striking characteristic was their boar-like tusks that protruded above and below their skulls, earning them the nickname "BoarCroc". With longer legs than their contemporary counterparts, it is believed that they traversed Africa's plains in search of prey, which likely included dinosaurs. The illustration showcases not only these fascinating creatures but also highlights the lush botanical surroundings. The baobab trees stand tall and proud along the riverside, providing shelter for both predator and prey alike. This image offers a glimpse into our planet's rich biological history and serves as a reminder of how diverse life on Earth has been throughout time. It sparks curiosity about our world's past inhabitants while showcasing nature's intricate beauty through artistry and scientific accuracy. Walter Myers' remarkable creation transports us to an era long gone yet forever imprinted in fossil records—a testament to the wonders waiting to be discovered within our own planet's history.
