Globular cluster M15

Globular cluster M15. Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image of the globular star cluster M15. This is a ball of hundreds of thousands of stars which lies around 40, 000 light years from Earth in the constellation Pegasus. Most of the stars are hot, small blue-white stars. Numerous red giants (orange), older stars nearing the ends of their lives, are also seen. The pink blob at upper left is the planetary nebula Kuestner 648. Planetary nebulae are shells of gas cast off by stars at the ends of their lives, after the red giant phase. They are very rare in globular clusters, where their formation is poorly understood

EDITORS COMMENTS
This breathtaking print captures the mesmerizing beauty of Globular cluster M15, a celestial wonder located approximately 40,000 light years away from Earth in the constellation Pegasus. The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) has immortalized this ball of hundreds of thousands of stars, showcasing its ethereal charm and captivating details. The majority of stars within this globular cluster are hot, small blue-white stars that illuminate the cosmic canvas with their brilliant glow. However, amidst this stellar congregation, one can also witness the presence of older red giants nearing the end stages of their lives. These majestic orange-hued giants add a touch of wisdom and grandeur to the scene. At the upper left corner lies an intriguing pink blob known as Kuestner 648 - a planetary nebula casting its vibrant gas shell into space. Such phenomena are incredibly rare within globular clusters like M15, leaving scientists puzzled about their formation and existence. This awe-inspiring image showcases not only our fascination with space but also our continuous quest for knowledge about these celestial marvels. It serves as a reminder that there is still so much we have yet to understand about our vast universe and its countless wonders.
