Current car. This is the first electric car to go into production since World War II
Current car. This is the first electric car to go into production since World War II, and the Electricity Council have bought sixty-one Enfield 8000s for their employees. Its a two-seater with room for luggage or two small children behind. It will cover about fifty miles in average city traffic on one battery charge, cruises at 40 m.p.h. and has lively acceleration. Batteries can be re-charged by simply plugging in to one domestic 13-amp socket. The big problem is price. The cost is about £ 1, 000 which compares with £ 695 for a basic Mini. But Enfield Automotive hope to cut the price as production increases. February 1973 P018762
