Stanleys Journey through Unknown Central Africa, 1887-1890: His Meeting with Emin Pasha, April 29, 1888, at Kavalli, on Lake Nyanza, (1901). In 1886, Welsh explorer and journalist Henry Morton Stanley (1841-1904) led the Emin Pasha Relief Expedition to rescue Emin Pasha (1840-1892), governor of Equatoria in the southern Sudan who was threatened by Mahdist forces.
