Sir Isaac Newton under the apple tree, (20th century)

Sir Isaac Newton under the apple tree, (20th century). Newton under the apple tree where, according to popular legend, a falling apple prompted him to devise his theory of gravity. Newtons (1643-1727) discoveries were prolific and exerted a huge influence on science and thought. His theories of gravity and his three laws of motion were outlined in his greatest work, Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (1687), and he is credited with discovering differential calculus. He also formulated theories regarding optics and the nature of light that led to him building the first reflecting telescope. Knighted by Queen Anne in 1705, Newton is buried in Westminster Abbey, London

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the iconic image of Sir Isaac Newton sitting under an apple tree, where he is said to have been inspired by a falling apple to develop his groundbreaking theory of gravity. The photograph, taken in the 20th century, pays homage to one of history's greatest scientific minds. Sir Isaac Newton's contributions to science and thought were immense. His discoveries revolutionized our understanding of the natural world and continue to shape modern physics. In his seminal work, Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica, published in 1687, Newton outlined his theories on gravity and introduced his three laws of motion. Additionally, he made significant advancements in mathematics through his development of differential calculus. Newton's brilliance extended beyond just physics. He delved into optics and light theory, leading him to construct the first reflecting telescope. Knighted by Queen Anne in 1705 for his remarkable achievements, Newton left an indelible mark on British society. Today, this legendary figure rests eternally at Westminster Abbey in London. This print serves as a powerful reminder of Newton's profound impact on science and humanity as a whole. It encapsulates both the mythological story that surrounds him – with apples symbolizing discovery – as well as the serene beauty found within nature itself.
