EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the magnificent Corsham Court, located in Wiltshire, England. Once a royal property dating back to the days of Ethelred the Unready, this stately home has a rich history that spans centuries. Built in the 1580s by Thomas Smythe, it later came under the ownership of Lord Methuen and his family in the mid-18th century. Renowned landscape architect Capability Brown left his mark on Corsham Court during the 1760s when he redesigned both its house and gardens. This prestigious commission is considered one of Brown's most significant projects after Blenheim Palace. The image captures not only the grandeur of this architectural masterpiece but also highlights its picturesque surroundings. The vibrant colors bring to life every detail of this historic building and its lush garden. Printed as part of "A Series of Picturesque Views" edited by Reverend FO Morris, this wood-engraved plate was created by talented artists Benjamin Fawcett and Alexander Francis Lydon. Their skillful rendering perfectly captures both the exterior beauty and serene ambiance that make Corsham Court a true gem among country houses. This print offers viewers a glimpse into an era defined by aristocracy and British heritage while celebrating the remarkable talent behind its creation – from Capability Brown's visionary designs to Fawcett and Lydon's artistic prowess.
