EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a stunning detail of the portrait "Infanta Maria Ana Victoria de Borbon, 1724" by Nicolas de Largilliere. The painting, housed in the Prado Museum in Madrid, Spain, depicts Marie-Anne-Victoire de Bourbon, daughter of King Philip V and Queen Elisabeth Farnese of Spain. At just six years old, this young princess was promised in marriage to King Louis XV of France when he was fourteen. This particular portrait was created during her time in France after being sent there for the arranged marriage. Dressed in exquisite French royal robes adorned with fleur-de-lys embroidery, she exudes an air of innocence and regality beyond her tender age. However, plans changed and she returned to Spain in 1725 without marrying Louis XV. Instead, she wedded Portuguese Infante José and eventually became Queen consort of Portugal in 1759. Her journey from being a child bride-to-be to becoming a queen is truly remarkable. In this detail captured by Fine Art Finder from Bridgeman Images, we see the young infanta standing confidently with a fan held delicately at her side. The ornate crown atop her head symbolizes her noble lineage while the fleur-de-lys motif further emphasizes her connection to both French and Spanish royalty. This enchanting image offers us a glimpse into the life of an extraordinary princess whose destiny took unexpected turns but ultimately led to greatness as Queen Maria I of Portugal.
