Sea Adventure: The wreck of the "Indian Chief" (colour litho)
8668760 Sea Adventure: The wreck of the "Indian Chief" (colour litho) by English School, (20th century); Private Collection; (add.info.: The wreck of the "Indian Chief." When the big sailing ship Indian Chief, with a crew of twenty-nine, was wrecked on the Long Sand off the Thames in 1881, the weather was so bad that the lightship's rockets were not seen from shore, and the men had been forced into the rigging before a fisherman took the news. The only help that could weather the storm was from Ramsgate, whence the tug Vulcan towed out the lifeboat Bradford which after many hours search in terrible weather found the wreck, and with great skill and gallantry contrived to save the eleven men who were still alive.
