The Faun by Edward Knoblauch

The Faun by Edward Knoblauch. First produced at the Prince of Wales Theatre, London on 10th June 1913. A piece of whimsy in which a faun enters a London drawing room to prevent a man from taking his own life. This was possibly a shrewd move from the producers, as Nijinsky had recently (and famously) danced LApres Midi DUn Faune. The production toured to the Princes Theatre, Bristol opening on 10th November 1913. Starring John Martin Harvey as Prince Silvani (The Faun). Date: 1913

EDITORS COMMENTS
by Edward Knoblauch is a captivating theatrical production that first graced the stage at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London on the 10th of June in 1913. This whimsical piece of art tells the story of a faun, a mythical creature half human, half goat, who enters a London drawing room to prevent a man from taking his own life. The production's inception was a shrewd move from the producers, as the famous dance "L'Apres-Midi d'un Faune" by Vaslav Nijinsky had recently enthralled audiences. John Martin Harvey, an accomplished actor, portrayed the character of Prince Silvani, also known as The Faun, in this enchanting production. The Faun, with his satyr companions, created a mesmerizing silhouette against the red backdrop of the stage, adding an air of mystique and intrigue. The production of "The Faun" by Edward Knoblauch was not only popular in London but also toured to the Princes Theatre in Bristol, opening on the 10th of November in 1913. The Faun and his satyrs, with their mythological allure, captivated audiences and offered a unique blend of theatrical entertainment. This photograph, taken during the production, captures the essence of the Faun's entrance into the London drawing room, a moment of whimsy and wonder that transported audiences to a magical realm. The Faun's presence served as a reminder that even in the midst of despair, there is always a glimmer of hope and magic to be found. This image is a testament to the enduring power of the arts to captivate and inspire, and serves as a reminder of the enchanting production of "The Faun" by Edward Knoblauch, which first graced the stage over a century ago.
