This photograph captures the excitement of the Grand Aerostatic Fete at Aylesbury, held on the spacious meadow of Mr. T.J. Hinds of the Black Swan Inn, Cambridge Street, on the 11th of July, 1849. The fete marked the 416th ascent of renowned balloonist, Mr. Charles Green, in his majestic Royal Victoria Balloon. The event drew a large crowd, who gathered to witness the spectacle of hot air ballooning in the early Victorian era.
