Rear-Admiral Alfred Taylor Dale, Commander in Chief of the Flying Squadron, 1896. In 1896 Dale (1840-1925) commanded the Particular Service Squadron, a squadron of six ships mobilised after Kaiser Wilhelm II sent a congratulatory telegram to President Paul Kruger of the South African Republic after his repulsing of the Jameson Raid.
