EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a poignant moment between an elderly man and a young woman, set against the backdrop of the mid-18th century. The Italian Venetian painter and printmaker Giovanni Battista Tiepolo expertly brings this scene to life through his skillful use of pen over pencil and wash on paper. In this artwork, we see the young woman pointing up towards the sun, her face filled with awe and wonder. Beside her stands an elderly man, his weathered features reflecting wisdom and experience. Their contrasting ages symbolize the passing of time and generations coming together in harmony. Tiepolo's versatility as an artist is evident in this piece as he effortlessly transitions from creating grand frescoes for churches and palaces to producing delicate etchings like this one.
