Apollo 14 EVA View, lunar surface, 1971. Creator: Edgar Mitchell
Apollo 14 EVA View, lunar surface, 1971. Astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell, lunar module pilot, photographed this sweeping view showing fellow Moon-explorer astronaut Alan B. Shepard Jr. mission commander, and the Apollo 14 Lunar Module (LM). A small cluster of rocks and a few prints made by the lunar overshoes of Mitchell are in the foreground. Mitchell was standing in the boulder field, located just north by northwest of the LM, when he took this picture during the second Apollo 14 extravehicular activity (EVA-2), on February 6, 1971. While astronaut Stuart A. Roosa, command module pilot, remained with the Command and Service Modules (CSM) in lunar orbit, Shepard and Mitchell descended in the LM to explore the Moon

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photo print, titled "Apollo 14 EVA View, lunar surface, 1971" captures a historic moment in space exploration. Taken by astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell during the second Apollo 14 extravehicular activity (EVA-2), this image showcases his fellow Moon-explorer astronaut Alan B. Shepard Jr. , mission commander, alongside the Apollo 14 Lunar Module (LM). The photograph offers a sweeping view of the lunar surface, with Mitchell standing amidst a boulder field just north by northwest of the LM. In the foreground, we see a small cluster of rocks and footprints made by Mitchell's lunar overshoes. As Stuart A. Roosa remains in lunar orbit with the Command and Service Modules (CSM), Shepard and Mitchell embarked on their mission to explore the Moon's mysteries firsthand. This image serves as a testament to their bravery and dedication to scientific discovery. The stark black and white tones add an air of mystery to this otherworldly landscape while emphasizing the shadows cast by both astronauts and equipment. It is through images like these that we gain insight into humanity's remarkable achievements beyond Earth's boundaries. This print is not only a tribute to America's space program but also represents our ongoing quest for knowledge about our universe. Created by Edgar Mitchell himself, it stands as an enduring symbol of human ingenuity and exploration in one of mankind's greatest adventures - landing on the moon.
