From 2 August 1718 until the Patrona Halil uprising in September 1730, Ucanbarli Mehmed Efendi served as the Journey Efendi. He was considered one of the greatest scholars of his time and there is a relatively large amount of biographical information about him. He was born in Istanbul in 1673 or 1674 and died in August or September of the year 1732. In the portrait that Vanmour made of him, he is probably around 57 years old.
